Shopify Limits Events Data Retention to One Year in 2026

What Changed

Shopify has implemented a one-year data retention limit for events accessed through the Admin GraphQL Event interface and the Admin REST events resource. Any events data older than 12 months is no longer available through these APIs, effective immediately as of January 23, 2026. This change is part of Shopify's broader initiative to optimize data management and enhance overall system performance.

Why This Matters

Developers who rely on historical events data for analytics, auditing, compliance, or business intelligence may be significantly impacted by this change. If your applications depend on querying events spanning multiple years—such as tracking long-term customer behavior, order history analysis, or regulatory compliance reporting—you'll need to adjust your data strategy and implement alternative solutions for archiving or storing older events.
