Shopify POS Now Supports Combined Ship and Carry Out Orders in 2025

What Changed

Shopify has expanded its Point of Sale (POS) capabilities to allow Retail Pro Merchants using eligible tax software to combine ship and carry out items in a single order. Previously, these fulfillment methods required separate transactions. This update streamlines the checkout experience by enabling customers to purchase items for immediate pickup alongside items that will be shipped later—all in one seamless transaction.

Additionally, Shopify has updated default email templates across the admin under Settings > Notifications, including changes to POS and mobile receipts, order confirmations, order invoices, and order edited notifications.

Why This Matters

For Retail Pro Merchants, this feature reduces friction in the checkout process and improves operational efficiency. Customers can now complete mixed-fulfillment purchases without multiple transactions, leading to a better shopping experience and fewer abandoned carts. This is particularly valuable for merchants operating both physical retail locations and fulfillment centers.

Developers working with Shopify's POS system should understand these changes when building custom integrations or workflows that handle order processing, inventory management, or fulfillment routing for retail clients.
